Introduction of Attractions

Ishibutai Tumulus

A valuable site serving as an ancient burial site where you can feel the history of the Asuka period

Built over 1,400 years ago during the Asuka period, Ishibutai Kofun is one of the largest square burial mounds in Japan. It uses 2,300 tons of massive stones, and you can enter the stacked stone chamber (where the coffin was placed), where you'll be overwhelmed by the height of the ceiling and its sheer scale. Combined with the scenery of the tranquil mountain village, Ishibutai Tumulus is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Asuka region.
